Response to the Pinellas County Commissioners’ Decision

The recent decision by the Pinellas County Commissioners to defund Creative Pinellas came as both a shock and a profound disappointment. Despite the tremendous turnout, heartfelt testimonies, and clear evidence of the impact of the arts in our community, our voices were not heard. This decision feels like a sucker punch to the gut—not just to artists, but to all who believe in the transformative power of creativity.

But we will not give up. As long as the arts are under attack, we will continue to stand up and stand together. The arts are not a luxury; they are a vital part of our cultural, educational, and economic wellbeing. They foster connection, inspire innovation, and provide opportunities for healing and growth that no other sector can replicate.

We are resolved to keep moving forward. The Pinellas arts community is strong, resilient, and united. We will continue to advocate for the recognition and support our artists and organizations deserve—because when we invest in the arts, we invest in the heart and soul of our community.
