Klimchak is a composer known for his use of electronics & homebuilt instruments. His work has been seen in dance, theater & solo performances around the world. In 2011, he was given a grant by Idea Capital to make a series of compositions for home-built percussion instruments with lights incorporated in them. They were performed in 2012/2013 as flash percussion performances, titled Klimchak’s Lebeato Lounge. In March, 2015, Klimchak premiered his solo show, CooksNotes, in which he makes music on kitchen implements while cooking dinner for the audience.
Klimchak regularly performs solo shows featuring the Don Buchla designed Marimba Lumina. Only about 100 of this very rare instrument were made. With the Marimba Lumina the percussionist is able to perform live music that would normally take at least 4 musicians. His multi-instrumental compositions are played with 4 separate mallets, six foot pedals and a breath controller. As added touches, his sets usually include 4 or 5 small percussion instruments, some chanting or tuvan throat singing and at least one solo on the theremin.

EXHIBITION AND BOLDER Talks

February 16th Exhibition 4-11 and up until March 1st
BOLDER Talk 6:30-7pm

Connecting with community and raising awareness about the environment and consumerism, is the foundation for found object artist, Autumn Pearson. Originally from a small farm in Indiana, Autumn has been living and working in New Mexico for the past 17 years. As and artist and educator, she strives to make an impact with her imagery that is made from 100% found or recycled materials.

Autumn has spent the last 6 months overseas working and showing her art primarily in Morocco and the Canary Islands. Turning cans into flowers, nets into mermaids, and paper into portraits, she is very excited to be creating in Safety Harbor.

Her up-coming exhibition, “Giving Back” hosted by the Safety Harbor Art and Music Center, SHAMC allows Autumn to express her gratitude to the community. Her family has had winter homes in Safety Harbor since the 1960s. She learned how to ride her bike on the brick streets and do cartwheels on the old pier. Safety Harbor holds a special place in Autumn’s heart and she is thrilled to have the opportunity to give back through her art. This exhibition will utilizing only materials collected in Safety Harbor.

Sculptural Concrete Workshop
Jan 20, 2018 Saturday 10-5
Jan 21, 2018 Sunday 10-5
There is a long history of non-conforming construction known as ferro-cement. Basically it refers to any type of reinforcing steel, iron or other metal combined with traditional and modified concrete(cement)
Ricky Boscarino has created numerous sculptures both public and at his home Luna Parc using this method. It is also used in construction of shelters and homes to create sculpted living spaces.
Ricky has been inspired by the undulating roof lines of Gaudi of Barcelona as well as the eccentric imposing facades of Hundertwasser ( of Vienna and New Zealand).
In this two day workshop we will construct a sculptural electrified lamppost which will be a permanent fixture at SHAMC in Safety Harbor FL.
We'll work with Ricky and the founders of SHAMC on the piece using the ferro-cement method. You can be a part of  the process from beginning to completion.
The process can be difficult at times, cement, wire mesh and wire are somewhat stubborn materials so be prepared to work, have fun and be a part of this amazing experience. The result will be spectacular!
We ask for $10 per person per day for the experience.

DAPHNE WILLIS - MUSICIAN
 Nashville style Songwriters Workshop
April 2017 artist in residence and performance and school visit

Come Write A Song With Me!
This 90 minute workshop will incorporate the professional Nashville writing style into a group song writing session. I will walk you through the basics of what happens in a typical Nashville songwriting session and we will follow the steps to craft our very own song. We will cover phrasing, melodic balance and build, and structure I will use titles, lyrics, melodies and chord progressions (if applicable) from workshop participants as we go. At the end of the session, I will make a very simple acoustic voice memo of our song and email it to everyone as an mp3! Whether you are a professional songwriter, just starting to get into it, or you only sing in the shower, you can get a lot out of this workshop. Songwriting is all about connecting with a concept or idea and fully expressing it in a song. It’s fun, therapeutic, and a great way to connect with others in your community!

Daphne Willis visited a school to talk about her experience becoming a songwriter in Nashville and to inspire young talent.

We LOVE Daphne cause when she comes to town whether it is for Safety Harbor SongFest or a Songwriters Artist in Residency during our "EARTH without ART is just eh" Earthday Celebration she is always game for anything....especially letting us throw paint at her like in her awesome video Done with Being Done!
